MIKI LEE

Miki Lee is a color-oriented abstractionist. She earned her BFA at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne, and her MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1997. Miki is the recipient of many awards and grants from organizations that include the Elizabeth Foundation, The MacDowell Colony, and the Millay Colony. Her work has been recognized in Art in America, The New York Times, The New York Observer, and the Chicago Tribune. She has shown in New York, Chicago, Seattle, and now in Boston.

Miki Lee's paintings begin with contained lines, meticulously drawn by hand, that zig-zag in playful colors across the surface. At first glance, the pallet appears to repeat throughout the work, but in reality no color appears twice in the same piece. Most recently, Miki has introduced open spaces and hard-edged black shapes that disrupt the flow of color, like rocks in a waterfall.
